Zena Airlines : New company in Mayotte. An airline that could operate its first flights in the first quarter 2022.

The economic adventure of the two project leaders takes shape

The airline Zena has caused a lot of ink to flow in recent weeks and a priori it will still be talked about.

The question of its support by the departmental council was invited Tuesday during the last permanent commission of the term of office in favor of the collective of citizens of Mayotte.

Régis Nova, one of two creators of Zena answered questions from France Mayotte Matin.

FMM : Is there a real chance of boarding a Zena plane one day? ?

Régis Nova : Yes because this project has 3 years, we conduct each step rigorously and we are very well supported. We also took a year to do rigorous market research., the data has been all confirmed : there is the possibility of operating from Mayotte with the metropolis and the region at better rates than those practiced today while earning money.

We are supported by Airbus Consulting which validated our business plan. The ZENA company will be created by the end of June at the latest with an innovative legal form.

Currently, we are in the process of finishing the fundraising up to 1,4 million. We are in discussion to complete the round table. This is the condition for entering the certification phase with civil aviation to obtain our transport certificate.. This phase will last between 5 and 8 month and will begin this summer.

We will be supported by Airbus Consulting, the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world. This support is necessary for the project : it will be more difficult to refuse us our certificate for the wrong reasons, in particular from possible pressure that Reunion could put on our file to make it fail : a refusal must be justified to Airbus Consulting on the understanding that our operating manuals will be adapted from theirs.

FMM : Once this certificate has been obtained, what is the next step? ?

RN : Then it will be finalize the rental of our aircraft and customize them. The Covid health crisis will benefit us, the planes for rent on the market are numerous and at good prices. On the other hand, the installation of the cabin should not suffer from the usual delays which could delay the project. I estimate that this step will take between 3 and 6 month.

Along with this work, we will operate a second phase of fundraising. We will have to find 22,6 EUR million, it will be simpler than for the first, especially with private Mahoran investors who are hesitant today. They fear the pressure from Reunion so that we do not obtain our transport certificate, once we have it there will be no real obstacle for Zena.

Civil aviation requires financial security equivalent to 3 months of operation to be able to honor the transport contract that we sign with our customers, this money is also essential to finance the deposit of our planes.

FMM : We could board your planes to go where and when ?

RN : The meeting, Paris and Marseilles, we will favor Orly for connections with the regional network and then to Saint Denis de la Réunion and Saint Pierre. We expect to operate the first flight in the first quarter 2022. Then, then we will open up to other countries in the area such as Pemba in Mozambique, proposing a Paris-Mayotte-Pemba will bring us a huge competitive advantage with the gas project and will interest companies.
