Mayotte – Majunga in cooperation for an agricultural project

The president of the departmental council of Mayotte, Mr. Ben Issa Ousseni launches an agricultural cooperation project between Mayotte and Majunga. This initiative aims to create local jobs and strengthen links between the two territories.

Project launch

It is a vast agricultural cooperation project carried out by the Interreg program between the Boeny region and Mayotte.. This will make it possible to feed Mahorais livestock but also to obtain meat directly from Madagascar.. The Boeny region will open an agricultural high school to train young people to take the jobs that will become available.

For Governor Mokhtar, the interest of this project is to be able to create jobs but also to learn the notions of traceability essential for the European Union. The governor emphasized : « Until now, we only had cultural cooperation between Mayotte and Majunga. Now, it’s economic cooperation and we need and want it ».

A promising project for both parties

A promising agricultural cooperation project was discussed upon his arrival in Majunga. At the outset, 5000 tonnes of alfalfa will be produced in Majunga to feed livestock in Mayotte. « Producing in Majunga is a very interesting opportunity because it allows us to deal with the shortage of land., but also the water shortage. On the Malagasy side, this cooperation will create jobs and therefore improve the standard of living of the local population », explains the president of the Departmental Council.

A project to create a maritime link between the two territories is also underway. Regional cooperation is taking off and this is good news for the wallets of the Mahorais and for the diversity on the plates.

The signing of the agreement took place today in Majunga.
