Opening of the borders of Madagascar
Opening of the borders of Madagascar
Opening of the borders of Madagascar. Closed for several months as part of the health emergency, Madagascar's borders will gradually reopen. Connections between Antananarivo and the Indian Ocean islands will resume 23 October 2021. And connections between Antananarivo and European countries will resume from 6 November 2021.
Council of Ministers
Government ends suspense over border reopening.
Indeed, yesterday's Council of Ministers (Wednesday 13 October) has decided a gradual opening of Madagascar's borders.
The 23 October 2021 for regional flights, i.e., the flights from neighboring islands as Reunion and Mauritius. These flights will be operated by Air Austral for Reunion Island, and Air Mauritius for Mauritius.
And the 6 November 2021 for long-haul flights from Europe. And these are the companies Air Madagascar and Air France who will operate these flights. [Midi-Madagasikara]
The frequency of flights will, however, be reduced, compared to the normal frequency before the context of the covid-19 pandemic.
Procedures
On the other hand, as part of this reopening of borders, the PCR tests are now chargeable for all travelers arriving in Madagascar. But, the cost of this mandatory test of around €25 will be included in the price of the plane ticket.
One quarantine upon arrival will be applied to travelers. It will only lastbetween 24 and 48 hours, while waiting for the PCR test result to come out.
If the test is negative, the passenger will be free to travel within the country. On the other hand, if the PCR test is positive, the passenger will remain in confinement for 14 days.
Apart from travel for medical evacuation reasons, the Council of Ministers also decided that all private flights and private jets wishing to enter Madagascar must have a special authorization signed by President Andry Rajoelina and Prime Minister Ntsay Christian.
Vols charters
On the other hand, charter flights coming from Milan, of Rome and Europe to Nosy-Be are also authorized to resume and can be provided by low cost flights.
This government decision will put an end to the ordeal of thousands of Malagasy people stuck abroad since 20 March 2020, date of border closure due to explosion of coronavirus cases, but also the suffering of tourist operators in Nosy-Be, in Mahajanga and many other towns.

Hello to all the team, I only came to Coco Lodge once, and it was in… 2008 ! Great souvenir, even if unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to return to Majunga, despite frequent business trips to Mada. In any case, this news of border reopening is excellent, I admit that she had gone under the radar in France. As soon as the World Bank office reopens in Tana, It would be with pleasure that I would try to come see you again. Good luck.
