Air Austral receives its 3 new Airbuses. In his days, it was the first French company to acquire a Boeing B-787 type aircraft.
It innovates again and acquires an Airbus A 220-300 latest generation, a fully modernized medium-haul aircraft, with renewed comfort, and intended for a more efficient service of its regional network.
3 new Airbuses
Air Austral announces that it has officially taken possession of the first of its three A220s- 300 ordered from the manufacturer Airbus in October 2019. The 27 July 2021 the acquisition process for the A220 has indeed come to an end. The delivery of the two other aircraft is organized in the wake of.
The 3 new planes must land on Reunion Island on 12 next august.
They replace the two Boeing 737-800NG and the ATR 72-500. And they will make up a homogeneous and fully modernized medium-haul fleet.
Innovative
Intermediate size, equipped with 132 places (12 Comfort, 120 Leisure), the Airbus A220-300 offers a less noisy cabin, more spacious, brighter for each passenger.
Powered by new generation engines, the A220 is the aircraft quietest and most environmentally friendly of its category. The aircraft is characterized by a reduced noise footprint of 50 % compared to previous generation aircraft, lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per seat by 25 % as well as lower NOx emissions by 50 % compared to current industry standards.
New Horizons
“The Airbus A220-300 opens up new horizons for us. This is the device we needed to confirm our vanguard position in the Indian Ocean, while maintaining sustainable profitability prospects » says Marie-Josèphe Malé, Chairman and CEO of Air Austral.
It will be able to serve all Air Austral destinations within a radius of 6.000 km (3.200 nautical miles).
In this way, Air Austral intends to optimize its costs. And it will have a more flexible and robust operating model, allowing to consider, term, strengthening of its regional network.
In the immediate future, Air Austral plans to deploy the Airbus A220-300 between Reunion and Mayotte, then between Reunion and Mauritius. Subsequently, the lifting of health restrictions will make it possible to complete this offer towards Madagascar, Seychelles, the Comoros, India and South Africa.
