Majunga Tourism : Reopening of the Anjohibe cave

Good weather opens up again for nature lovers. The Antanamarina complex, where there is the famous Anjohibe cave is now accessible. Indeed the rainy season in the region is over for this year, and the most beautiful sites are open … to contemplate with COCO LODGE TOUR OPERATOR.

Majunga, land of adventure

Located in the North-West of Madagascar, in the Boeny region, Mahajanga or Majunga is a town with vast cultural diversity. This is one of the destinations not to be missed.

If you want to get out of the city for an unusual little stay in a quiet and magical place in Majunga, like the Antamarina complex (Anjohibe) is the best detour you need.

The Anjohibe cave, a site not to be missed

The Anjohibe cave is a must-see site in Majunga. Located approximately 80km from the city, accessible from April to November in 4 x 4 (63km of a track preceded by 20km of asphalt road from Mahajanga town). The journey to the Anjohibe caves is an adventure in itself : about three hours of “secondary” road.

These caves are made up of several communicating cavities. The underground circuit is almost 11km in total, with impressive limestone concretions. The Anjohibe cave is one of the most important speleological sites in Madagascar, a fairly geological tower, a real beauty in a calcite setting, limestones forming stalactites and stalagmites up to 10 metres in height.

Without forgetting Lake Andranojoby which constitutes a real natural swimming pool. Downstream, falls offer a drop of 20m. A small adjacent forest is populated with easily observed lemurs (Propithèque de Coquerel).

Things to know about the cave

Once arrived at Anjohibe, the first question that arises is : where lies the famous caves ?

It is true that the entry does not mine pay. And as it does y no indication, you will have little chance of finding an entry without a guide.

It should be noted that without a guide, it is strongly recommended not to venture into the galleries which are real labyrinths… You should know that Anjohibe is a network of around ten kilometers made up of more than a hundred galleries. Rest assured though, you will never have the chance to see all of these galleries, many still remain unexplored and many cavities are still awaiting their first visit.

Coco Lodge Tour Operator will be delighted to introduce you to this unique wonder in the world..
