Founded in 1700 by the Arabs, the city of Mahajanga is the largest of any of the West coast of the island. It is a historical center from which grew the Sakalava Kingdom of the Boina. In addition to the visit to the caves, the site reserves many surprises : natural swimming pool, torrent, Cascade, mangrove and the Mahafanina waterfalls are the beauty of the site. Such as the famous Verreaux Sifaka Propithecus Coquereli lemurs inhabit the surroundings of the site.

The National Park of Ankarafantsika
Lovers of nature and the Malagasy biodiversity will find the National Park of Ankarafantsika meet their expectations. The Park is located at approximately 115 km southeast of the city. It includes Ampijoroa forestry station, a large reserve of 4920 HA. It offers a landscape contrasted by the rainforest, the dry forest and the presence of Lakes. The fauna and flora have a high rate of endemism. Eight species of lemurs, 129 bird species, pink flamingos, reptiles inhabit the Park. The Sakalava culture is also represented through a few tombs included in the site.

Seven circuits are offered by the Park to enjoy the splendor and diversity of landscapes : circuits Coquereli, Ankarokaroka, View source, Retendrika, Baobab, «Pachypodium Rosilatum» and the nocturnal circuit. The circuit Coquereli is especially based on observation of the fauna of the Park as the fascinating lemur Propithecus coquereli verreaux or the rare bird Vanga Van damn. Aquatic fauna is no slouch with the View Source circuit course: Lake Ravelobe to familiarize themselves with the Ankoay Eagle, wild ducks and the crocodiles of the Nile. The chameleons 'Rhinoceratus and Oustalet' and a few night owls are the main attractions of the night circuit.

The Park Retendrika circuit puts forward the plant wealth of the site. You can admire various medicinal plants as the "retendrika., many species of terrestrial orchids, the precious wood trees, etc. The corner is also ideal to observe the bird "schlegel's asity.. The discovery of the Malagasy flora is facilitated by the Baobab and Pachypodium Rosilatum circuits. The first takes you to the heart of the stunning "Andasonia madagascariensis" baobabs that mingle with the trees of crocodiles. The second makes you discover the pachypodiums also known as bellbottoms.

The Ankarokaroka circuit is one of the most original site. It offers stunning views of a splendid landscape of dry forest and Savannah. It is also characterized by impressive canyons carved by erosion.
