The sights of the BOENY - the Bay of BOMBETOKA and KATSEPY
Bombetoka Bay taking its name from the words «Bao be toka"meaning «the great single baobab» is the gateway to all the southern part of the region (Mitsinjo, Soalala,…).
Traditional pirogue, rapid hull or the majestic baobab or madaba tray, the crossing of the Bay of Bombetoka occurs on average in 45 MN. Once landed on the peninsula of Katsepy (12 KMS from the city of Mahajanga), interesting walks are to :
-discovery of the village of fishermen throughout the seaside
-tour of the lighthouse (walk or conveyed) to admire the panoramic view over the Bay and the channel of Mozambique
-visit Sankoany celestite mine, to 13 KMS South of Katsepy, accessible by boat or canoe along the edge according to the tides.

The Antrema reserve with a passage in the Ampanjaka (the prince sakalava of the region) is the highlight of this day.

Great place for excursions, wide cocotteraie, walk to EIFFEL recently rehabilitated lighthouse (distance from 7 Katsepy km) from where one enjoys panoramic views over the mouth of the Betsiboka. This Lighthouse has experienced a tragedy with the tomb of the daughter of the engineer at its foot.
A small forest houses lemurs that are worth the visit.
A few kilometres from Katsepy, the new protected area bio cultural of Antrema where you can take advantage of even 153 plant species, Amphibians and reptiles, and 5 species of lemurs.
This exceptional site, life of the Sakalava, is open to the public since October 2013. It was before that frequented by the teams of the Museum of natural history in Paris in collaboration with the University of Antananarivo, due to the higher density of lemurs of Madagascar, which is explained by the fact that for the Sakalava, lemurs are the representation of their ancestors who reincarnate in its stunning animals.
