World Cancer Day
World Cancer Day – Preventing and treating
Today, the 04 February is World Cancer Day. Cancer is still today the leading cause of mortality worldwide, long before wars and other natural disasters. He's much less talked about., but it kills.
Yet, it is treatable and the interest of this day is also to raise awareness of the usefulness of early detection to achieve a cure.
Cancer is on the rise worldwide
At the current pace, warns WHO, the number of cases could increase by 60 % in the next two decades, with developing countries as main sources of new cases.
Cancer in numbers
En 2020, it is estimated that the number of people who will be diagnosed with cancer exceeds the 18 million and more than 9 millions will die. The most common cancers will be those of the breast, from the prostate, lung and colon.
An interesting initiative was taken by the ARC recently, namely the creation of a website entirely dedicated to cancer and allowing Internet users to find answers to their questions : www.arc-cancer.net
The different regions of the globe are not equal when it comes to cancer and the northern hemisphere benefits from significant resources in the detection and treatment of cancers.. Southern countries do not benefit from such attention, Unfortunately.
Cancer prevention
Prevent cancer, it's possible?
Even though cancer is a disease whose many aspects still remain mysterious, it is possible to adopt lifestyle habits that will allow you to prevent it.
You can therefore have a positive impact on your health and reduce certain risk factors..
World Cancer Day with Coco Lodge Majunga
For this World Cancer Day, Coco Lodge Majunga gives you some recommendations that will help you reduce the chances of being affected by this disease.
- Quit smoking
Cigarette smoke contains at least 3 500 distinct compounds, many of which contribute to the development of cancer.
- Protect your skin from the sun
Excessive exposure to the sun is synonymous with an increased risk of skin cancer, including melanoma.
The most important thing is to avoid sunburn at all costs at any age., but especially in children.
- Avoid being overweight
Being overweight is an important risk factor for cancer since it leads to the multiplication of certain inflammatory molecules which promote the development of mutations among precancerous cells., induce steroid hormone levels and increase insulin resistance.
- Be active 30 minutes per day
Physically active people see their risk of being affected by several cancers significantly reduced.
- Reduce your consumption of red meats
It is recommended to replace the consumption of red meats with other sources of protein : fish, poultry, nut, legumes.
Eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and legumes
Plants are the only foods capable of slowing the progression of microscopic tumors that form throughout our lives.
- Limit your daily alcohol consumption to 2 glasses for men and 1 glass for women
The window for alcohol consumption to reduce mortality risk is narrower than you might think.
- Limit your consumption of products containing a lot of salt
High salt intake correlates with increased risk of stomach cancer.
- Do not use supplements to prevent cancer
The conclusion of several dozen studies unequivocally demonstrates that people who consume supplements, whether multi-vitamins, vitamins C or E or beta-carotene, show no reduction in cancer risk.
Other actions to prevent cancer:
- Young women should get vaccinated against HPV.
- Mothers should breastfeed their children for a period of six months.
- Exposure to carcinogenic chemicals responsible for polluting ambient air or the air inside homes must be limited..
