Aquaculture Continued support in the Boeny region by Hotel ★★★ Gourmet restaurant Coco Lodge Majunga.

The price of a kilo of tilapia fluctuates around 5 000 Ariary, the producing areas of the Boeny region. Aquaculture refers generally to all activities of animal or plant production in aquatic environments, whether it's freshwater, brackish water, or in the marine environment.

This generic term brings together including :
• fish farming, the production of fish ;
• shellfish aquaculture, the production of shells ;
• the peneiculture, the production of crustaceans (Here's the shrimp) ;
• seaweed farming, seaweed production.

Aquaculture is increasingly seen as an alternative to overfishing in the seas and oceans of the globe, especially at a time when world demand for fish continues to grow.

Aquaculture holds an important place in Madagascar. It is considered one of the promising sectors for the country for his contribution to the re-entry of foreign currency by exports of shrimp breeding and algae as well as for his involvement in the improvement of the income of peasant farmers, to the supply of fish for the local market and l ’ employment it generates. Aquaculture is practiced in fresh water, brackish water and water marine:
• Freshwater, It's basically fish farming in ponds and irrigated rice fields. After upgrading phase-in of FRY private rural farmers, the current priority is the promotion of commercial aquaculture focused market based on the development of new technologies and the culture of new species.
• In brackish and marine waters, shrimp farming has for a decade an impressive development boom, which is expected to continue in the medium term. The culture of seaweed began. Other types of aquaculture as the sea cucumber and Spirulina are developing.
