Renewable energy: A development project for Madagascar

Renewable energy: A development project for Madagascar

A discussion was held between President Andry Rajoelina and the Director General of IRENA, Francesco La Camera, on the sidelines of the AIM Congress in Abu Dhabi. This discussion was made with the aim of making an agreement to finance the renewable energy project in Madagascar.

What does renewable energy bring to our lives? ?

Energy is the central element of development. It allows investments, innovations and the creation of new industries, which stimulate employment, growth for all and economic well-being everywhere and on a livable planet.

It is therefore in this fact that Andry Rajoelina underlined his firm commitment to promoting renewable energies as an engine of sustainable development in Madagascar.. He notably mentioned the potential of 7800 MW of the country in terms of renewable energies, notably solar and wind, while recalling the major challenge of the Big Island in terms of energy, that of doubling electricity production which is currently 600MW and providing sustainable access to electricity and lighting for 75% households here 2030.

Commitment from Madagascar and the International Renewable Energy Agency

IRENA is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting renewable energy. It also serves as the main platform for international cooperation on renewable energy. Madagascar is currently initiating the procedures for ratifying the Statutes of the Organization.

The discussion therefore took place around the possibility of an agreement to finance renewable energy projects.. This such as the installation of photovoltaic solar parks and the construction of hydroelectric power stations, in the Big Island.
