61th anniversary of the independence of Madagascar : national celebration

The stands and bleachers of the Barea stadium will welcome the public, on the occasion of the military parade for the 61^th anniversary of the return to independence. This will be the first large popular mass organized by the State since Madagascar was affected by the coronavirus pandemic..

“Only people with an entry ticket will be able to attend the military parade”.

For those who wish to be present at Barea Stadium, the 26 June, it will be necessary, previously, collect an entry ticket from the offices of the six districts of Antananarivo.

Entrance tickets will be, also, available from district offices in other constituencies in the Analamanga region. The distribution of entrance tickets will begin this Thursday.

Barrier gestures

Respect for barrier gestures and sanitary distancing will be, Nevertheless, of rigor during this event at the Barea stadium. Each spectator will be separated by an empty chair, at least. The start of the ceremony at Barea Stadium is announced at 15 hours 30 minutes.

“Solidarity, national momentum and patriotism”, are the leitmotifs of the celebration of the 61^th anniversary of the return to independence. It is whispered that the event will be closed with fireworks. It will be the icing on the cake. The information is not, However, not confirmed, until there.

Summary of the story

Everything seems to start with the gigantic insurrection of 1947 which, after World War II, recalls the same violence that accelerated the independence process elsewhere in Africa. But, the insurrection is severely suppressed. And "the Big Island" seems plunged into a great torpor until the framework law Gaston Defferre (1956) and the return to power of General de Gaulle (1958).

The country gained independence on 26 June 1960. It was the end of a long struggle to get rid of the French administration which culminated in the riots in 1947 resulting in tens of thousands of deaths. Yet, Madagascar did not find serenity once independence was obtained. The influence of France is very present causing political crises and power struggles. En 1975 a new constitution is passed. And the country cuts all ties with France.
