She is one of the one hundred and forty-six passengers on the first commercial flight from Mauritius, who landed at Ivato International Airport, Saturday afternoon, during the official reopening of Madagascar's borders.

Although Jessica can't wait to see her family again, she won't be able to go home right away.

She committed to stay confined in a hotel, until the PCR test result is obtained that she did on arrival. With this reopening of the borders, the risk of importing the Delta variant exists, due to the fact that this strain is circulating abroad, even in Mauritius.

Madagascar remains vigilant to avoid a possible spread of this very dangerous variant. Passengers are not allowed to come into contact with their loved ones who come to welcome them.

The Minister of Tourism, Joël Randriamandanto a, By the way, invited families not to come to the airport. “It’s not necessary. Forty-six hotels in Antananarivo have approval to accommodate passengers during their confinement. Everything is the responsibility of the passengers : the cost of the PCR test 25 euro, the price of the shuttle for the transfer to the hotel, accommodation and catering costs. “We are ready to make sacrifices to see our family again. », adds Jessica.

27% of these passengers are tourists

65% of the one hundred and forty-six passengers who disembarked at Ivato, Saturday, are residents of Madagascar. 33% non-residents came for business reasons and 27% for tourism reasons, according to the boarding form completed by these passengers, according to the Ministry of Tourism. “The tourism sheet is a tool set up, in order to obtain reliable and real-time statistics, on the reason for the trip, the nationality, the type of accommodation or the region of destination of each passenger”, indicates the number one of this department.

The next regional flight is expected this Tuesday, a flight from Reunion.

" From now on, the Air Austral and Air Mauritius companies will carry out, each, two flights per week. It’s their quota”, chain Joël Randriamandanto.

Long-haul flights, from Europe, are planned from 6 November.
