Third meeting between Andry Nirina Rajoelina and Emmanuel Macron

President Andry Rajoelina met with French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday at the Elysee Palace in Paris. Actually, this is the third meeting between these two leaders.

After participating in the Tokyo International Conference Andry Rajoelina made a detour to meet the French President yesterday 29 August 2022 at the Elysee Palace in Paris. That meeting yesterday, is the third meeting between the President of the Malagasy Republic and the French President.

Strengthening economic cooperation, including, support from France in the energy sector was on the menu of the interview.

To remember, the French President has already announced in 2021 that France is ready to support the development of Madagascar.

During this meeting the French President also said that the support of France will amount to 240 million euros for the realization of projects in the fields of agriculture, education, of urban governance and the implementation of challenges.

President Macron also underlined his willingness to help Madagascar in the energy sector, in particular in the increase in the production of electricity in our country.

What about the scattered islands ?

The official reports of this meeting between the two leaders did not mention the case of the scattered islands.

Yet, the scattered islands were discussed during the first meeting between the two Presidents at the Elysée Palace in May 2019.

Indeed, at the time, it was indicated that a solution had to be found before the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the independence of the Big Island.

The case of the scattered islands was also on the table again during the second meeting of the two heads of state at the Elysée in August. 2021 while the discussions initiated by a joint committee in 2019 still hadn't picked up.
