Inter-university tournament : the Malagasy team in the 3^th French-speaking debate position

Last Wednesday, the 17 April 2024, an inter-university tournament took place at Kenyatta University in Kenya. Madagascar ranked 3^th position of the French-speaking debate competition of the Indian Ocean and Southern Africa.

Course of the tournament

For this tenth edition of the tournament, Madagascar participated. The Malagasy team was made up of Rotsinasandratra Lucas Hantamalala, by Harena Maminiaina Rakotomanana and Solofo Naly Rasamizafy. These are students from the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Antananarivo.

Mauritius received the title of champion. Second place was won by Kenya. During this tournament, Madagascar found itself opposite Mozambique to debate “access to justice for all is a prerequisite for peace”. Rotsinasandratra Lucas Hantamalala, the only girl on the Malagasy team won this title.

A great privilege for the winners

This year, the six finalist countries, including Angola, the Comoros, and Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar and Mozambique received a privilege. Indeed, the jury decided to award a prize to the best individual speaker. A distinction which was awarded to Rotsinasandratra Lucas Hantamalala, the leader of the Malagasy team. She has been recognized as the best speaker in the Indian Ocean region and Southern Africa. This even to the leader of the Angola team as the best speaker.

Says a jury member : « Teamwork is one of Africa’s great weaknesses, because there are always strong points and weak points in a team. This is why we decided to introduce an individual distinction ».

Great pride of Malagasy citizens. Young Malagasy people who knew how to carry the name and color of our beautiful country for positive results.
