The tourism sector supports the international year of sustainable tourism for development (2017).
A few weeks away from the official launch of the international year of sustainable tourism for development (2017), the 18 January 2017 in Madrid (Spain), representatives of different tourism industries and elsewhere came to join in the efforts of the WTO - World Tourism Organization- to celebrate this important event.
L’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies, at its seventieth session, has proclaimed 2017 International year of sustainable tourism for development. Dans le contexte du Programme de développement durable à l’horizon 2030 et des objectifs de développement durable de portée universelle, the international year is intended to encourage the transition to policies, business practices and behavior of consumers in the direction of a more sustainable sector contributing to the objectives of sustainable development.
The Mexican Ministry of tourism, the German national tourism office, All Nippon Airways, the Global Economy Research Center of Macau Tourism (China), the Agency of tourism of the Balearic Islands, Minube, Amadeus, European Geoparks Network, Travel Corporation and DDB are among the first sponsors to support, alongside the UNWTO, the programme of activities of the international year. The city of Zurich, the University of Crete, CABI and Green Key are, for their part, devenus des « Amis » de l’Année internationale.
« L’Année internationale du tourisme durable pour le développement qui sera lancée au mois de janvier à Madrid est une occasion exceptionnelle de sensibiliser les décideurs du secteur public et du secteur privé ainsi que le grand public à la contribution du tourisme durable au développement et de mobiliser toutes les parties prenantes pour, set, faire du tourisme un catalyseur de changement positif » a déclaré le Secrétaire général de l’OMT, Taleb Rifai.
The year will promote the role of tourism in the following five key areas :
1) Inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
2) Social inclusion, employment and poverty reduction.
3) Rational use of resources, environmental protection and climate change.
4) Cultural values, diversity and heritage.
5) Mutual understanding, peace and security.
Un programme complet d’activités sera présenté le 18 janvier lors du lancement de l’Année internationale.
