Le tourisme durable by Hôtel★★★ Restaurant gourmand Coco Lodge Majunga

Tourism becomes one of the fields of application of sustainable development during the first Earth Summit.

The Agenda 21 (action plan for the 21st century), adopted in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, includes respect for the balance between the tourist needs and local aspirations or preventive actions to promote in order to preserve the environment and the "tourist product"..
Therefore, "the objective of sustainable tourism development is to make compatible the improvement of environmental and social conditions resulting from tourism development with the preservation of capacity development for future generations..

The principles of sustainable tourism have been defined at a conference organized in Lanzarote (Canary) en 1995 by a collective of local island communities, particularly affected with the excesses of mass tourism.

They have been redefined and updated in August 2004 by the Committee on sustainable development of tourism of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) : "The guiding principles of sustainable development and sustainable management of tourism practices are applicable to all forms of tourism in all destination types., including mass tourism and the various tourist niches. The principles of sustainability relate to the environmental aspects, Economic and socio-cultural development of tourism.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of the latter, We must achieve the right balance between these three aspects..

Therefore, sustainable tourism should :

exploit the resources of environment optimum way which constitute a key element of the tourist development, maintaining essential ecological processes and helping to safeguard natural resources and biodiversity,

enforce the socio-cultural authenticity of host communities, preserve their traditional values and their cultural assets built and live and contribute to the understanding and intercultural tolerance,

ensure a viable economic activity in the long term offering to all parties involved in the socio-economic benefits equitably distributed, including stable employment, benefits and opportunities of social services for host communities, and thus contributing to the reduction of poverty.

Sustainable tourism development requires participation, informed, of all the actors concerned, as well as a strong political leadership to ensure broad participation and the existence of a consensus.
Sustainable tourism is the result of ongoing efforts and requires constant monitoring of the effects of this activity, implying the adoption, whenever it is necessary, preventive and/or corrective measures necessary.
Sustainable tourism should also satisfy, at the highest possible level, tourists, and it represents for them a useful experience by making them more aware of sustainability issues and encouraging among them adapted practices.

Sustainable tourism is organized since 2010 through a global partnership, global initiative to integrate sustainability into all aspects of policy, the development and exploitation of tourism, the United Nations Environment Programme-driven.
