Covid-19 in Madagascar : Positivity rate down
Covid-19 in Madagascar : Positivity rate down. Depuis le 28 April, statistics on the coronavirus disease situation seem encouraging. However, they do not report carriers of the virus.
Encouraging figures
The latest figures on the evolution of the coronavirus are encouraging. The number of new contaminations, that of people in treatment and the positivity rate are decreasing, according to the epidemiological report as of the date of 28 April.
The positivity rate decreases to 10% against 20 to 40%, for several weeks. We detected 186 new cases on 1860 tests. This drop in the positivity rate means that infected people in the community are decreasing.
5040 people are in treatment, against almost 7000, a few days ago. 904 carriers of the virus are declared cured.
This downward trend is observed, for a few days. The figures for new cases increased from 800 to 500, then less than 200 Case, currently.
“The measures taken recently, like total confinement during the weekend, suspension of weekly markets, the ban on gatherings, helped limit the spread of the virus, on the one hand. On the other hand, the majority of infected people no longer take the screening test. They start treatments straight away”, explains a public health specialist.

Vaccines are coming soon
“The Malagasy State is in no way against vaccination. We must carefully choose vaccines adapted to the COVID-19 variant that is prevalent in Madagascar “, declared President Andry Rajoelina.
At the end of the meeting with members of the National Academy of Medicine of Madagascar (ANAMEM) This 19 April, and in view of the evolution of cases at the national and global level, several vaccines have been selected to fight the spread of the pandemic in Madagascar.
On proposal from the Academy of Medicine, Madagascar has chosen OVISHIELD vaccines, PFIZER, Sinopherman It Jonhoson&Johnson.
However, the use of vaccines should be adapted to each case and each affected region. On the other hand, priority during the vaccination campaign will be given to health workers as well as the elderly.
The Malagasy State is doing everything possible to have vaccines, and measures have been deployed to acquire them as quickly as possible. Madagascar is already registered with the COVAX initiative but the State is also studying other avenues in order to deliver vaccines as quickly as possible..
The first doses of vaccine against Covid-19 will be received in a fortnight, declared the Minister of Public Health, Pr Jean Louis Rakotovao, the 22 April 2021. “The vaccines that the Malagasy government ordered, will arrive in Madagascar in 15 days, as was discussed with partners last week”.
