The old Tsimihety never married their daughter to strangers. The reason ? Here it is.
The Betsirebaka coming from the South. They disliked that their dead be left far from Farafangana. An old Betsirebaka settled in the Androna with any is family. They were in any ten people. They had planted a lot of rice, cassava, potato, by saonjo, corn. They had raised a lot of oxen. Betsirebaka enriched have only an idea: joining Farafangana – “Da mimpodimpody koa ro”. A son of our Farafangana was married with a young Tsimihety. From this union was born a boy. The Betsirebaka family was going to take the way back. The young mother advised by his parents would not accompany her husband.
“It is too far, She says, may I leave my bones!” The distraught boy refused to join the South without being accompanied by his wife. And advice, approaches, solicitations, threats multiplied. The days passed. The boy did not want to leave. The quarrel settled between the two families. However, the young woman became every day more beautiful and every day, love that it was her husband increased. It was impossible to leave, passion prevented. Yet, the Betsirebaka family was going to take an irrevocable decision: back at any price, and nobody should remain, thus wanted ancestors.
It was therefore decided to head of the young recalcitrant. Thus, his body would remain his father-in-law, While his head would be put into a soubique and transported to Farafangananote. On his knife, It stopped the young lover. He begged, nothing to do. He wept, no mercy. Death is hard and discourages everyone, even lovers.
“I will follow my father”, said the young Betsirebaka. It left freedom and he joined Farafangana with parents.
His wife died of sadness.
Since that time, the Tsimihety admit difficult marriages of their children with strangers.
Note : his head would be put into a soubique and transported to Farafangana : the Betsiberaka are very demanding for the return of the ashes. However, It's never their intention to cause the death of an unruly individual. On the other hand, custom provides for the transfer of all the mortal remains that could find, Therefore the transfer of the bones of the head while the other bones remain elsewhere would never be justified before the ancestors.
