The year 2017 has been proclaimed by the United Nations 'international year of sustainable tourism for development. (A/RES/70/193).
This international year aims to raise awareness of decision-makers and the general public to the contribution of sustainable tourism to the development and mobilize all stakeholders for, set, make tourism a catalyst for positive change.
In the context of the program 2030 and universal sustainable development objectives, It expected the international year that it encourages the transition to policies, business practices and a consumer behavior in the direction of a more sustainable tourism.
The #IY2017 will highlight the role of tourism in the five following areas :
(1) Inclusive and sustainable economic growth
(2) Social inclusion, employment and poverty reduction
(3) Rational use of resources, environmental protection and climate change
(4) Cultural values, diversity and heritage
(5) Mutual understanding, peace and security.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the intergovernmental organization responsible for tourism, has been selected to organize and implement the international year, in collaboration with Governments, the UN organizations concerned, other international and regional, and all interested stakeholders.
