Sustainable tourism by Hotel★★★ Gourmet restaurant Coco Lodge Majunga.
The tourism sector supports the international year of sustainable tourism for development (2017).
A few weeks away from the official launch of the international year of sustainable tourism for development (2017), the 18 January 2017 in Madrid (Spain), representatives of different tourism industries and elsewhere came to join in the efforts of the WTO - World Tourism Organization- to celebrate this important event.
The United Nations General Assembly, at its seventieth session, has proclaimed 2017 International year of sustainable tourism for development. In the context of the Sustainable Development Agenda on the horizon 2030 and sustainable development goals of universal scope, the international year is intended to encourage the transition to policies, business practices and behavior of consumers in the direction of a more sustainable sector contributing to the objectives of sustainable development.
The Mexican Ministry of tourism, the German national tourism office, All Nippon Airways, the Global Economy Research Center of Macau Tourism (China), the Agency of tourism of the Balearic Islands, Minube, Amadeus, European Geoparks Network, Travel Corporation and DDB are among the first sponsors to support, alongside the UNWTO, the programme of activities of the international year. The city of Zurich, the University of Crete, CABI and Green Key are, for their part, become “Friends” of the International Year.
“The International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, which will be launched in January in Madrid, is an exceptional opportunity to raise awareness among decision-makers in the public and private sectors as well as the general public about the contribution of sustainable tourism to development and to mobilize all stakeholders to, set, making tourism a catalyst for positive change,” declared the UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai.
The year will promote the role of tourism in the following five key areas :
1) Inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
2) Social inclusion, employment and poverty reduction.
3) Rational use of resources, environmental protection and climate change.
4) Cultural values, diversity and heritage.
5) Mutual understanding, peace and security.
A full program of activities will be presented on 18 January during the launch of the International Year.
