More airlines authorized to fly to Madagascar

A little good news for Madagascar. There will be a few more airlines authorized to serve Madagascar in the coming days. The government spokesperson, Lalatiana Rakotondrazafy Andriatongarivo announced yesterday 25 March 2022, during a national television broadcast.

More airlines authorized to fly to Madagascar

The number of airlines that will be authorized to serve the Big Island will increase in the coming days.

On the other hand, the list of these companies authorized to resume flights to and from Madagascar has not yet been revealed by the authorities.

According to the government spokesperson, it is up to the ministries concerned to officially release this list. She also did not give a precise date for the resumption of these additional air connections.. But she clarified that “It’s only a matter of days ».

Conditions

These companies will nevertheless remain subject to conditions, if we are to believe the government spokesperson.

She notably mentioned the need to collaborate with the Malagasy State in the fight against illicit exports.. The State has the equipment to scan passengers’ cabin baggage.

Indeed, the detailed conditions which were initially vague and which had created controversies had been the subject of intense discussions between the authorities and the companies.

The resumption of air connections which had been planned for 5 Mars was thus limited to a few companies, the others having continued the negotiations.

Demand from Tourist Operators

Operators in the tourism sector as well as the entire private sector who had demanded the total and unrestricted reopening of borders. They also demanded that the measures be clarified before the 28 March, International Air Transport Association season opening date (IATA).

At Majunga, hoteliers, restaurateurs, Tour Operators, the guides, taxis, sellers at the beach, and all economic operators whose activities are linked to tourism, gathered to assert their demands :

  • The reopening of Majunga airport to external flights (including Mayotte, Comoros and Reunion) ;
  • Road rehabilitation (RN4 and RN6).

It is high time to let the economy recover.
