Latest news on the reopening of Madagascar's borders

The Council of Ministers of 23 February announced the reopening of Madagascar's borders for 5 last March, sous conditions. The Ministerial press release of 05 Mars announced these conditions and the reopening of Toamasina and Nosy-Be airports. Here, we inform you about the latest news on the reopening of Madagascar's borders.

Opening of Toamasina and Nosy-Be airport

According to the press release from 05 Last March, the airports authorized to receive commercial flights are currently that of Antananarivo, from Toamasina and Nosy-Be with some airlines.

Air Austral on the Reunion-Antananarivo and Reunion-Toamasina line

Madagascar can welcome from this month the Air Austral company for the Réunion-Antananarivo and Réunion-Toamasina routes with two weekly frequencies.

Vols charters : Neos Air pour Nosy-Be

Indeed, Nosy-Be can accommodate charter flights from now on. Those operated by the company Neos Air will begin next April with a weekly frequency, during the first two weeks of operation. And can expand to two frequencies per week thereafter.

The said company has already filed a program with the Civil Aviation of Madagascar (Acm).

The first charter flight will arrive at Fascene airport in Nosy Be on 12 April 2022, according to Joël Randriamandanto, the Minister of tourism.

Businesses demand a “real” reopening of borders

The CTM, GEM and FIVMPAMA held a press conference on 09 March 2022.

Actually, to save the tourist season 2022, they demand the lifting of restrictive measures for the opening of borders and especially quarantine, and that all airlines can return.

Thus, the private sector urges the government to take into consideration 4 following points :

• The opening of Madagascar to all airlines,
• The reopening of all international airports in Madagascar, including Mahajanga,
• Lifting the PCR test on arrival and compulsory confinement until the result,
• The urgent renovation of roads including the RN4 which serves Antananarivo to Mahajanga

Northern tourism operators are also calling for an effective opening of borders with adequate conditions and measures..

They sound the alarm to signal the precariousness of their situation. They reiterate the call of the Madagascar Tourism Confederation (Ctm), of the Madagascar Business Group (GEM) as well as the Madagascar Employers’ Group (Fivmpama - Association of entrepreneurs in Madagascar).

Mahajanga tourism operators gathered

Mahajanga tourism operators gathered this Tuesday 22 March to 16 hours. They were more than 250 people to gather on the pontoon of Sôma Beach, the large tourist beach of Mahajanga.

It is in the form of a spontaneous gathering that hoteliers, restaurateurs, nautical operators, guides, …came together. They requested the reopening of direct flights to Mahajanga and the renovation of the roads.
