Majunga is one of the cities that shelters its natural riches and the Hotel ★★★ gourmet restaurant Coco Lodge is there for you to discover them.

But before visiting his campaign, It would be good to know its history and how people there live...

Life in the countryside

The village

In the centre of the village, is a large tree trunk around which the ceremonies take place (circumcisions, speech...).
The notables live in North.

Many fady (forbidden), whose transgression triggered the wrath of the ancestors, govern the life of the countryside. They are rooted in the history of the area to which they relate : ex do not point a finger Tomb; not eating pork or bring pork or coming to a place after eating pork. Some foods are prohibited : pork, garlic, Gold (According to region); foreigners cannot enter the village.

If a fady is violated, the wise (equivalent of a King) Decides to give ritual solution. If disputes occur between two families, It brings them together in the big house near the tree for reconciliation.

The family schema

Community life is still very marked. Grandparents are important in the education of children. The emotional ties are very strong. Speaking of her child, his father, his mother, a brother, a sister or a wife, a Madagascan gladly say "aiko ity. (It's my 'aina.). The word 'aina' is untranslatable in french.

A Malagasy proverb says "when we like his parents., We live with. " (due to the risk of discord).
The father has the authority and did not need to talk.
The children put a pebble or a blade of grass under the tongue to scold when they have done something you.

Some relationships are subject to a faly :
– brother and sister who become husband ;
– father and son who become equal ;

Once committed the crime that has damaged the relationship of kinship, the rite of the faly is necessary :
– faly which destroys the relationship of kinship and sanctions the marital relationship : by sprinkling of the blood of beef ; by money or alcohol
– faly who revitalized the relationship and destroyed the marital relationship : by sprinkling of the blood of beef, by introduction of one or the one who committed the fault in the belly of an ox.

Home

It usually consists of a room.
The Northeast is reserved for the ancestors (Zoro firarazana).
The openings are never the South-facing. The main door is to the West and the windows in the North and East.
The head of the bed is oriented to the North or East (to not give kicks to the Sun).

A few fady :
– do not open an umbrella in the House ;
– do not take the broom at night because it seems that the next day there are debts ;
– If there are crumbs, sweep them but you do not get out them for not having debt ;
– do not wipe the table with paper at the risk of getting into debt,
– do not stay too long to watch the fire risk peeing in bed.

Turtles protect bad spells.

Table, the best pieces (rump of poultry) are reserved for seniors. The father eats first and can finish the meal without leaving anything.

Rhythm of life

Children wake up very early.
Girls and boys are involved in household chores : fetching water, wood or coal and the fire, pound rice, out zebus, helping the market... The older sister takes care of the second sons and wear them on her back at the age of 5 years.

The child does not get involved in the conversations of adults. We don't talk. There is no right to speak. Explain, justify are disrespectful. That is why it is very disciplined at school.
We go to bed early to save the candle.

A few fadys :
– not to catch the small green locusts at the risk of losing his little brother or sister.

Life in urban areas

The pace of life of children is conditioned by the social environment in which they live.

In the well-off, where education is supported by the nainaines, children are often self-employed and can be tyrannical with adults.

In the modest backgrounds, children are more resourceful.
