Location d’ATR 72 : Air Austral s’exprime

Air Austral claims that the monthly rent for each ATR leased from Tsaradia was 75 000 $. Yet, during a broadcast on a set of a private television channel, the Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Roberto Tinoka said they paid 196 000 dollars per month for ATR rental 72 : Air Austral expresses itself on these facts.

Statement by the Malagasy Minister of Transport

« L’ATR 72 rented with Air Austral was not suitable nor at the altitude of Ivato airport, nor to the climate of other regions of the country. If he counts 64 places, he could not refuel taking into account these geographical and climatic considerations.

This is why passengers scheduled to be boarded have been transferred to the waiting list. While there were empty seats.

These anomalies were passed on to the amount of the prices of the plane tickets. And say we paid 196 000 dollars per month rental of this device. While there exists, for the same type of device, half the price of these 196 000 dollars" explained the Minister of Transport Tinoka Roberto.

Air Austral s’exprime

The Air Austral company gave their version on the rental of ATR 72.

"Since then, 2005, the Air Madagascar group used ATR72s whose configuration chosen by Tsaradia was 70 seats, either 8 in privilege class and 62 in leisure class.

Air Austral had instead chosen the option of limiting 64 the number of seats for its 2 ATR72.

The ATR72s are very efficient and suitable aircraft, both in terms of capacity and range, to the domestic service of Madagascar.

They also allow take-off and landing at full load from complex terrain such as Antsiranana, I'm encore Toamasina.

The problem of the particularly hot climate in the middle of the day at Ivato airport, located at 1 300 meters above sea level, during a period of the year, not allowing take-off under full load, was well known to the operational departments of Air Madagascar which had been operating since 2005 on ATR72-500.
