Achieving food security for all is at the heart of FAO efforts – ensure that human beings humans have regular access to food of good quality that allows them to lead a healthy life and active.
Our three main objectives are as follows : help eradicate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition ; the eradication of poverty and promote social and economic progress for all ; and manage and use natural resources in a sustainable manner, including the Earth, water, air, climate and genetic resources, for the benefit of present and future generations.
FAO is developing methods and standards for food and agriculture statistics, provides technical assistance and disseminates data for follow-up at the global level. FAO statistical activities include the design and implementation of methodologies and standards for the collection, validation, processing and analysis of data. FAO also plays a key role in compiling, the treatment and the global dissemination of statistics on food and agriculture, and helps Member States to develop their statistical capacity.
FAO has a decentralized statistical system and the activities include the following areas : Agriculture, forests and fisheries, land and water resources and their use, climate, environment, population, data disaggregated by sex, nutrition, poverty, rural development, education and health.
Madagascar-FAO : Towards country programs in place.
Madagascar is very affected by climate change. This is manifested inter alia by phenomena of drought affecting the regions in the South of the country as well as cyclones and floods affecting particularly the northern part of the island. Reason why, the Minister at the Presidency in charge of Agriculture and livestock, RIVO Rafiq and the Director-general of FAO (The United Nations food and Agriculture Organization), José Graziano da Silva discussed the implementation of country programmes which can register under the national programme of development, during their interview.
A meeting which took place on the margins of the 154th session of the FAO Council which was held the week last in the headquarters of this organization, based in Rome, in Italy. In addition, the triennial programme of locust, launched by the Ministry in partnership with FAO in 2013 is currently at end of cycle. The Minister in charge of agriculture and livestock, has also expressed the ambition of Madagascar to become the Foodshed of the Indian ocean.
