A WTO report identifies the common criteria for the classification of hotels 4 and 5 stars.

The new report of the UNWTO Hotel Classification Systems : Recurrence of Criteria in 4 and 5 Star Hotels (Hotel classification systems : recurrence of the criteria for hotels 4 and 5 stars) lists the criteria common to hotels 4 and 5 stars.
It provides valuable guidance to destinations wishing to review their hotel rating system or to establish a new.

The comparative assessment of international standards for accommodation can help destinations develop hotel classification systems that are most appropriate and most useful, both for consumers and for hotels, intermediaries and destinations. In this context, the new report of the UNWTO Hotel Classification Systems: Recurrence of Criteria in 4 and 5 Hotels star compares the recurrence of the criteria in 30 European destinations and 6 destinations from other regions.

The report was prepared jointly by the WTO and Norwegian Accreditation (NA), Organization of the Norwegian Ministry of trade, industry and fisheries, in the framework of its programme QualityMark Norway. While it is true that there are many types of classification systems worldwide, the report reveals that there is more in common than differences, between geographical groups as categories of 4 and 5 stars.

The report also provides an overview of the existing hotel rankings (types, benefits, problems) as well as advice of generality on the areas to be considered at the time to establish a formal system of classification.
The conclusions also call suggests that a more regular review of hotel classification systems can be useful to enable them to keep pace with the rapidly changing consumer needs, in particular in respect to the technologies and accessibility.

It's the second joint of the UNWTO report and Norwegian Accreditation on the theme of the hotel rankings, After that published in 2014 Online Guest Reviews and Hotel Classification Systems: An Integrated Approach(Reviews hotel classification systems and clients online : an integrated approach).
