Sites touristisques of BOENY - the new protected area d ' ANTREMA
Once the Bay of Bombetoka crossed in tray or hull, you will reach Katsepy. You then take the track to the lighthouse up to 6km south of Katsepy (It takes on average 1 hour's drive) and you'll be in Antrema.
Antrema is a protected area 12 300 HA of which 1 000 HA of marine park. There are dry forests on dune, moist forests, marshes, mangroves, Permanent Lakes and beaches of white sands.
There is also the last populations of crowned Sifakas, the famous "sifaka" considered by the inhabitants of Antrema as of the sacred ancestors, places under the supervision of Prince Tsimamanendry, guardian of tradition sakalava.
This Peninsula became a forestry station and classified first Malagasy in bio-cultural site 2000, at the request of the local community, with the support of the Faculty of Sciences of Antananarivo and the National Museum of natural history in Paris.
Today, a comprehensive program of conservation and development for local communities could be implemented through international and malagasy financing.
This reserve consists of 153 plant species (76% endemic), 23 species of amphibians and reptiles, 75 bird species, 5 including the famous 'crowned sifaka"lemur and marine fish species, freshwater and brackish.
The partnership between the National Museum of natural history, the Faculty of sciences of Antananarivo and the Sakalava community of Antrema led to the protection of Antrema with a double objective of conservation of lemurs and the Sakalava community development. Conservation is based on scientific knowledge of Antrema which is home to more than 700 Sifakas.
It also involves the development of the community local partner in the project held in association Antrema Miray.
The opening in environmental tourism must enable to sustain the project and especially to give to the community sakalava of alternative financial resources to the use of natural resources.
Currently, Antrema offers three circuits :
Circuit lemurs : walk towards the forest of Badrala where you will find the 5 species of lemur, nocturnal and diurnal Antrema : The famous Sifaka, Propithecus coronatus, but also Eulemur rufus, Eulemur mongoz, Microcebus murinus and Lepilemur aeecli.
Circuit Lakes and water birds : walk to Lake Satya through the Savannah. Several stops to visit the small lakes around. Lake Satya is home to species of water bird.
Circuit Marine Park : only by the sea, Discover the mangroves in marine park, you will encounter birds of lemurs. Enjoy this getaway to the South to discover the small islands covered with remnants of 17th century Arabic counters.
When you visit Antrema, 50% the admission price is booked in a Development Fund for the community Sakalava of Antrema.
Any visit to the new protected area of Antrema must be done under reservation, 72h in advance, the Regional Boeny Tourist Office.
