The festival of whales :
Whale festival is annually a unique opportunity to closely observe these marine mammals, and this is its main attraction. But the organizers of the festival also offer other activities to make the event even more entertaining.
All years, Whale Festival welcomes more than 3 500 visitors. Organized by the Cetamada association, the event is intended to raise the coastal villagers, as visitors, the protection of humpback whales, a threatened species, but also to the preservation of the environment. Thus, the organisers are planning a dozen activities to convey these messages and entertain visitors, while promoting local development of the island.
Cetamada was created in 2009 by a group of enthusiasts. It broadcasts a code of good conduct and forms ecotourism guides to promote a responsible and respectful observation.
In parallel, the association offers environmental education and community activities for the development of the local economy. Located in the centre of Ambodifotatra, the community centre in Cetamada devotes space to the promotion of local handicrafts. Science programs are implemented to better understand social behaviour of these animals.
Eleven tour operators in Madagascar are members of the association and are committed to comply with the code established by the association. If you live in one of these hotels, You can attend free lectures carried out by volunteers trained by Cetamada.
The opportunity to discover some aspects of these giants of the seas before leaving to meet them. More than 250 outings at sea are usually organized by the partners of the association between July and August. Eco-volunteers on board the boats identified more than 3100 individuals observed ! St. Marys will be totally immersed in a festive atmosphere, Thanks to events like free concerts, various sessions of cinema projection without forgetting the big parades of the Carnival.
Visitors start arriving by boat, coming from the port of Toamasina (Tamatave). They win the port, then join the island St. Mary's by the sea.
The coming of the sponsor of the Festival of whales Julien Lepers is scheduled for the second part of the festival the 8 July.
