En 1988, l’Assemblée générale avait exprimé sa vive préoccupation devant la pandémie de sida. Noting that the World Health Organization (WHO) had chosen the date of 1 December 1988 as World AIDS Day, the Assembly stressed the importance of this event (resolution 43/15). Today, more than 41 million people are living with HIV / AIDS. The world day of fight against AIDS is not the only opportunity to get back on this burning issue, but in insisting on the fact that we need to be all together against AIDS, It has its place in the calendar of international days.
Mobilization must remain whole
Again this year, the day a theme “Zero objective : zero new HIV infection, zero discrimination, zero AIDS-related deaths”. On this occasion, the Minister of Social Affairs and the French health, Marisol Touraine, has recalled the total mobilization of the Government to combat the virus and the INPES (National Institute for prevention and health education) has relaunched a public awareness campaign to encourage others to protect themselves and to get tested
His side, the Catholic Church (general audience of Pope Benedict XVI, the 28 November 2012) has said that the world day “is an opportunity to recall that this disease causes the death of millions of people and causes great suffering, aggravated in the regions of the world the poorest where access to effective drugs is very difficult”. The thought of the Pope goes in particular to the large number of children infected by their mothers while there are therapies to block this contagion. Benedict particularly wishes to encourage initiatives which (…) incite to combat that scourge.
The gap
