Malagasy Cinema by Hotel★★★ Restaurant Coco lodge Majunga.

Malagasy cinema is gaining prestige abroad.

Its reputation is growing thanks to the Rencontre des films-courts festival which is held annually in the capital.. The Malagasy seventh art also flourishes abroad.

Constantly evolving.
Reflecting unfailing passion and patience on the part of its actors, Malagasy cinema also asserts itself as productive and promising. Despite a socio-economic context that struggles to fully contribute to its development, the seventh art has continued on its merry way to end up granting itself a place of choice on the international scene.
Supported by a young generation of filmmakers, constantly thirsty for discoveries and enjoy experimenting with various cinematographic horizons, Malagasy cinema now fascinates a wider audience. The Meeting of short films festival (RFC) has been able to promote and enhance this art over the years, by promoting creativity, the imagination and the very history of Malagasy cinema, on both sides of the globe.
Honoring this art, and its quality as audiovisual heritage, the safe " Malagasy Cinema-Kolosary » was officially presented yesterday. This solemn event was held in Paris, at the Dapper Museum, among others, in the presence of Laza, director of RFC and director Raymond Rajaonarivelo. « This box set represents a vibrant tribute to Malagasy cinema», confides the latter.
A timeless cinema.
Eleven films representative of this know-how of Malagasy directors make up the box set “ Malagasy Cinema-Kolosary ». Timeless cinematographic works illustrate a cinema that is rejuvenating on the Big Island. As part of this presentation evening, four short films were screened for the public. It is a question of " L’Accident » by Benoît Ramampy (29 min) made in 1972, « The Sun rises… then sets » by Eric Razafindralambo (8 min) made in 2005, « Afropower» by Manohiray Randria¬mananjo (5 min) made in 2010 et « Madama Esther » by Luck Razanajaona ( 25 MN) made in 2013.

« The majority of films chosen for this box set represent restored heritage films., thanks to the funds of the Cinémathèque Afrique. It is important for us to combine them with recent films of the new generation, this is what we invite you to discover », says Laza.
Illustrating this perseverance of the new generation to put Malagasy cinema back on its pedestal, young Luck Razanajaona has just won an award at the Durban Film Mart (DFM) in South Africa for his work “ African Disco ». He won two prizes, the « Rotterdam lab Award » and the OIF price as well as 5000 euros for the most promising project.
