2017 : International Year of Sustainable Tourism by Hotel★★★ Coconut Lodge Majunga Gourmet Restaurant.
Twelve months to celebrate and promote the contribution of the sector of tourism in a world better : This is the main objective of the international year of sustainable tourism for development (2017) the kickoff will be given in a few days.
The General Assembly of the United Nations has proclaimed 2017 International year of sustainable tourism for development with regard to the potential of tourism to advance the program of sustainable development on the horizon 2030 and the 17 universal sustainable development goals.
The international year aims to encourage a change in policies, business practices and consumer behavior going in the direction of a tourism sector more sustainable that can effectively contribute to the objectives of sustainable development.
"There is an exceptional opportunity to make the sector more responsible tourism, more committed and able to realize the huge potential it holds in terms of economic prosperity, social inclusion, peace and understanding, preservation of cultures and the environment"said the Secretary general of the UNWTO, Taleb Rifai.
Knowing that it represents 7 % of world exports, 1 job on 11 and 10 % of world GDP, the tourism sector, If it is well managed, can contribute to inclusive economic growth, social inclusion as well as the protection of cultural and natural resources.
The international year will promote the role of tourism in the following five key areas :
1) Inclusive and sustainable economic growth ;
2) Social inclusion, employment and poverty reduction ;
3) Rational use of resources, environmental protection and climate change ;
4) Cultural values, diversity and heritage ; and
5) Mutual understanding, peace and security.
The presentation of the international year will take place in Madrid the 18 January 2017 When the Spanish the FITUR tourism fair.
UNWTO calls on all partners to participate in the celebration of this year by sharing their activities and their initiatives in favour of sustainable tourism for development to address http://www.tourism4development2017.org.
