Theater to encourage exchanges
Created in 1948, At the initiative of UNESCO and renowned personalities in the field of theater, The International Theater Institute is the most important non -governmental international organization in the field of scene arts with formal relations (consultation and association relations) with UNESCO. Iit is looking “to encourage international exchanges in the field of knowledge and practice of scene, Stimulate creation and expand cooperation between theater people, aware of public opinion on the consideration of artistic creation in the field of development, deepen mutual understanding in order to participate in the strengthening of peace and friendship between peoples, Associate with the defense of the Ideals and Goals defined by UNESCO.”

The events that mark World Theater Day make it possible to achieve these objectives. Each year, A personality of the world of theater or another figure known for his qualities of heart and spirit is invited to share his reflections on the theme of theater and peace between peoples. This message that we call the international message, is translated into around twenty languages. He is read in front of tens of thousands of spectators before the performance of the evening in theaters around the world, printed in hundreds of daily newspapers and broadcast by radio and television on 5 continents. Jean Cocteau was the author of the first international message in 1962.
The theater brings together and World Theater Day is the celebration of this desire. This is an opportunity for the artists of the scene to share with their audience a certain vision of their art and the way in which this art can contribute to understanding and peace between peoples.
To the worldwide dissemination of the international message are added many events from the almost intimate demonstration until the great popular celebration.
