Winter Olympics 2026 : Madagascar in the Top 50, national pride !
Congratulations to the Madagascar team at the Winter Olympic Games 2026. Mialitiana Clerc integrates the Top 50 in giant slalom and Matthew Gravier finishes his two rounds with courage. The main thing is there : Madagascar is present on the Olympic stage !
Mialitiana Clerc, combativeness to the end at the Olympics
At the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics 2026, Mialitiana Clerc has once again proven that the determination has no climatic boundaries. The Malagasy skier, entered in women's giant slalom, responded to tough competition. She completed both rounds of the event. A performance achieved in particularly demanding conditions.
On the 76 competitors at the start, she finishes 50ᵉ, with a cumulative time of 2:31.99, to 18.49 seconds of the Italian Federica Brignone, crowned Olympic champion.
During the first round, contested on the Tofane track in Cortina, Mialitiana sets a time of 1:12.35. Which temporarily made it 54ᵉ position. This round was marked by numerous abandonments. Thirteen skiers did not finish, one was disqualified and another did not start.
In the second round, she realizes 1:19.64. Without improving his first time, she nevertheless gained several places in the general classification. In a competition where the slightest mistake can be eliminatory, twenty abandonments were recorded in total. Completing both rounds is already a performance.
Mialitiana thus continues to write her Olympic history. Next step : the slalom, a faster and more technical discipline. The challenge is launched.
Matthew Gravier, endurance and honor
In men, Matthew Gravier also wore the Malagasy colors high on the legendary Stelvio track in Bormio.
Men's giant slalom, he finishes 57ᵉ on 81 competitors. Both rounds were contested on Saturday. His cumulative time of 2:48.83, with 1:27.86 in the first round and 1:20.97 in second, places it at 23.83 seconds of the winner.
On a route as technical as it is feared, every turn requires precision, power and composure. Mathieu Gravier held his own against an experienced international field. He went to the end of his effort.
For a tropical country like Madagascar, seeing your athletes compete on Olympic snow is already a symbolic victory. Their presence inspires. Their perseverance brings together. Their performances confirm that sport transcends geographical borders.
Madagascar can be proud of its representatives. The Italian snow has seen much more shine than lap times : she saw courage, passion and unfailing determination.
