No program cancellations at the World Bank

To Antananarivo, the World Bank wanted to dispel any doubt : none of its programs in Madagascar have been suspended or canceled. The short interruption observed was only a technical break. And now the disbursements have officially resumed since 12 November.
This clarification is important because the World Bank manages a portfolio of approximately 4 $ billion. This is an amount equivalent to the annual state budget..

The 23 Current programs cover strategic areas for the development of the country :

• Production and access to electricity,
• Drinking water and sanitation,
• Road rehabilitation,
• The development of digital.

In other words, sectors essential to the daily lives of households as well as to the economic competitiveness of the country. By maintaining his support, the World Bank sends a strong signal : the stability of development projects takes precedence over temporary political turbulence.

Accelerate execution : an imperative for visible results

If the resources mobilized are considerable, the World Bank now insists on a crucial point : accelerate impact on the ground. The current programs were developed before the establishment of the new government. They therefore do not yet reflect the new political priorities.
However, the institution expects this funding to quickly translate into concrete projects and a tangible improvement in public services. This particularly for the most sensitive sectors. Particular emphasis is placed on the Jirama. JIRAMA or Jiro sy Rano Malagasy is the national water and electricity production company. That whose performance directly conditions the quality of life of citizens.

Two major supports are already ready to be mobilized, for more 100 $ million :

• 10, intended to strengthen digital and energy connectivity,
• LEAD, focused on extending access to electricity at the lowest cost.
