The international telecoms Altice group is poised to give the mobile activities of its subsidiary overseas Telecom to Mayotte and Réunion to the Malagasy Telma operator island.
Group Telecom Altice, parent company of the french operator Numericable SFR, has announced on Friday 06 March be in exclusive negotiations with Telma operator, leader of telephony in Madagascar for the takeover of the mobile phone of overseas Telecom activities (UNWTO), its subsidiary to Réunion and Mayotte, two French territorial communities in the Indian Ocean.
The operation, that must still be validated by the French competition authority, should cost 70 EUR million, reports the daily french newspaper. It follows the acquisition by SFR by Numericable in October.
The sale of overseas Telecom, whose turnover amounts to 50 EUR million, has been ordered by the french regulator to avoid a position of monopoly to Altice on these two markets. Indeed, between them, SRR, the Reunion Island subsidiary of SFR, and Outremer Telecom hold 66 % the market of mobile at the meeting and 90 % in Mayotte.
Competition
This is the first acquisition in mobile telephony at the Telma international, subsidiary dedicated to the Malagasy family group Hiridjee telecoms sector, also present in the infrastructure, energy, real estate and finance.
For this transaction, Telma - who counts 2 million subscribers - had to win against serious competitors such as the investment fund Apax British (33,5 billion euros under management), the Free french telecoms operator, the Caribbean Digicel operator (present in Guadeloupe, Guiana and Martinique) and the reunion group Oceinde (building, fisheries resources, ICT and media).
