What better way to start your vacation than to exercise your brain with a good game of high-level chess?. The 4 to the 9 August at the Malagasy Cultural Center in Antsahavola, the new edition of the Open International Chess Games will be held. A chess tournament open to the public of all ages and backgrounds who would like to learn or test their level at this famous board game.
Organized by the Malagasy Chess Federation (CHILD), this international tournament will reunite, in addition to national participants, professionals and masters in the field from foreign countries, such as South Africa, and Botswana, Reunion, Mauritius and a few European countries, most of which will land this 31 July.
“We have seen over the last few years that many of the public, especially the youngest, increasingly appreciates chess games. The fact is that board games like fanorona or katro have fascinated the Malagasy people for several centuries.
Ancient games that are very similar to chess, hence this passion of the Malagasy people for chess games and the importance for us to constantly organize tournaments like this”, underlined Andria¬nantenaina Ramalan¬jaona, administrative manager within the Malagasy Chess Federation. Registrations can be made on “iko2015.mg” until the end of this month.
The Malagasy Chess Federation (CHILD) is the organization which aims to promote the practice of chess in Madagascar. Affiliated with the International Chess Federation since 19912, the FMJE is also a member of the International Association of French-speaking Chess3.
