The Vanilla Islands.
Let us already remember that the ITM in progress at the Carlton in Antananarivo, last day this saturday 30 may 2015, is a Vanilla Islands event.
Vanilla Islands' goals are to increase the number of high-contribution tourists, to provide tools for greater efficiency as well as to promote quality and service standards.
The concept of “vanilla islands” develops inter-island relations.
It allowed the relaxation of visas between the Vanilla Islands and the improvement of air traffic in the Indian Ocean..
Depuis le 19 December 2014, Madagascar presides over the Vanilla Islands through Benjamina Ramarcel Ramanantsoa, Minister of tourism. Madagascar focuses on optimizing available resources, strengthening training for tourism stakeholders, development of new products,…
After seven months of presidency, Didier Robert, president of the Réunion region, passed the torch to Madagascar.
Mauritius will take over the presidency in August 2015.
In order to strengthen the visibility of the Indian Ocean islands on the global tourism market, representatives of tourist offices in the Indian Ocean zone agreed to create the “Vanilla Island” label, from August 2010. The concept emphasizes the construction of links and exploits the synergy between the islands of the Indian Ocean through the creation of tourist combinations which promote inter-island exchanges..
July 2012, the Vanilla Island organization association was created to develop the tourist area of the Indian Ocean.
Being a member of the World Tourism Organization, the association is supported and developed in partnership with seven tourism offices and committees of the islands of the Indian Ocean zone. Among them are the Madagascar National Tourism Office -ONTM-.
A rotation of the presidency until 2017. This was the decision taken by consensus, yesterday, as part of a meeting of member countries of the Vanilla Islands, given that the statute of the association does not provide for an election.
The president of the Réunion region, Didier Robert, took over the reins of the association yesterday, thus replacing the Seychelles Minister of Tourism Alain Saint Ange at its head for two years. It was also agreed, that power will be transferred to the Minister of Tourism of Madagascar in December as part of the Métis Freedom Festival in Reunion. In August 2015, Mauritius will take over.
She will hold the presidency until May 2016 before entrusting it to the Comoros.
Mayotte will chair the association until May 2017.
The objective being to involve all the islands to achieve success. “This rotation of governance means that all the islands are involved. All remain united in the aim of working together for success”, advance Michel Saint Angel, Seychelles Minister of Tourism.
The continuity of actions already undertaken and the achievement of concrete results in two areas, namely air service and visa issuance, are the main objectives that the new president Didier Robert has set : “I undertake during my mandate to continue all the projects made, designed and validated so that they can be brought to fruition.”
