Malagasy Art and Culture listed by UNESCO

If the nature and rarely comparable biodiversity has established itself as to be included in the world natural heritage of mankind, art and the Malagasy culture have an Ambassador in the most remarkable human creations listed by UNESCO.
Cultural sites.

The Zafimaniry art
The Zafimaniry populations that occupy a mountainous area in the southeast of Ambositra, have developed an exemplary architectural art. The 30 000 souls who inhabit a few tens of square kilometres of a rugged relief, build wooden houses according to a process of Assembly so precise that it requires no studs, Neither mortises (Neither nails !). In addition, doors and windows are carved of beautiful geometric patterns that represent the universe of the Zafimaniry. The rosettes translate relations with their environment, their ancestors and therefore, the world of the beyond. Patterns sculpted in three dimensions regularly overlook beautiful houses built entirely of wood, tight against the other and which consist of the villages of extreme beauty embellished their attics to rice on stilts.

The Zafimaniry art is available also in the form of various objects : two panels chairs, wooden chests, Honey boxes, 'lighters' traditional…

Many artists engaged in the representation of elegant statues around the major theme of the woman and the child.
The Zafimaniry art is on the world heritage of UNESCO since 2004.

The Ambohimanga Rova
Visit this site attaching, high place of the Royal Merina dynasty, is a must. The Rova of Ambohimanga was classified World Heritage in 2001comme "the most representative symbol of the cultural identity of the Malagasy people.". This ancient Royal city was long sacred and forbidden to foreigners. We visit today, in the company of excellent guides, the different constructions that make up this Rova : the very simple box that was the residence of King Andrianampoinimerina and the buildings built in the nineteenth centuries by Queen Ranavalona I and

Ranavalona II.
Imposing doors, lookout posts, places where stood the Royal speech, oxen Park, sacred pools... constitute a superb architectural loaded stories.

Natural sites
Natural sites take the lion's share in this ranking in the world heritage of humanity with 7 sites that are among the major spots of biodiversity. In the Tsingy of Bemaraha (to the West of the big island) come join 6 forest of the eastern seaboard.
The Tsingy of Bemaraha

The first Malagasy site, all categories, to join the UNESCO world natural heritage, as soon as 1990, well deserved this classification. The new jewels of world natural heritage

The eastern forests include several national parks managed by Madagascar National Parks which 6 have been classified, the 27 June 2007, world natural heritage of UNESCO.
The massif of Marojejy National Park

60 km to the West of Sambava, the entry of Marojejy National Park is located along the beautiful road that leads up to Andapa.
Mountain massif which rises up to 1 800m altitude whose slopes are covered with all types of these rainforests in Madagascar. Lemurs, amphibians, reptiles and birds abound and are even easier to observe that we can stay in the camps that punctuate the main trail.

Cape Masoala National Park
The entrance to the National Park which can be reached by speedboat, is located 30 km to the East of Maroantsetra and spans 230 000the ocean HA up to 1 311m altitude. 10 species of lemurs and countless Batrachians and reptiles can be admired in this National Park. Three marine sites included in the Park offer some exceptional diving spots.
The National Park of Zahamena.

Located 270km from Antananarivo (paved until Moramanga road – count total 7 h of road), the park lies 8 km of Ambatondrazaka.
The National Park of Zahamena contains the largest number of birds on the East Coast and many reptiles and amphibians, complemented by a wide variety of orchids.

The National Park of Ranomafana
One of the gems of the 'circuit RN. 7 ». Entrance to the Park 8 km from Ranomafana (Spa). The National Park of Andohahela
Easy access by a paved road to 60km to the West of Fort-Dauphin (in the direction of Ambovombe).
