The anniversary of the entry into force of the Charter of the United Nations in 1945 is celebrated as United Nations day. The ratification of this founding document by the majority of the signatories (including the five permanent members of the Security Council) Indeed marks the birth of the United Nations Act.

It is the 31 October 1947 in its resolution 168 the General Assembly of the United Nations establishes the UN day. This last objective is to to "publicize the goals and achievements of the United Nations to the peoples of the world and to gain their support to the work of the United Nations..
It is declared international holiday by resolution 2782 Nations General Assembly United the 6 December 1971. The Assembly recommends that it be celebrated as such by all States members of the United Nations.

The celebration of this year will be marked by a series of events :

Concert for the day of the United Nations, the 23 October in the Hall of the General Assembly of the United Nations
United Nations day, celebrated each year the 24 October, is dedicated to the efforts and achievements of the United Nations through the world. Traditional United Nations Day concert is performed inside the emblematic of the General Assembly. It offers an opportunity to highlight, to celebrate and to reflect the work of the Organization and its agencies through the universal language of music.

24 October 2015 : The famous monuments of the world illuminate the campaign 'the world in blue United Nations '.
To help celebrate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, more than 200 landmarks, buildings, statues, bridges, etc. will be illuminated in blue across some 60 countries the 24 October, United Nations day. This event is part of a captivating new global campaign, to help to bring the citizens of the world and promote the message of peace, development and respect for human rights.

The Empire State Building and the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Tower of Pisa in Italy, the temple of Zeus in Athens, the national Museum of Beirut in the Lebanon, the national Theatre in Algiers, the Residence of the Governor to Port Louis in Mauritius, the House of the Radio in Brussels, the Town Hall in Bruges, in Belgium, the World Centre for peace in Verdun, in France, the Jet d'eau in Geneva and many other famous sites will illuminate in blue to mark the creation of the United Nations.

Images and videos of the illuminated structures will be shared on social networks and will be seen by millions of people around the world. We invite you to participate in these events by taking photos of the monuments illuminated in your town and encourage you to share your "blue pictures" using the hashtag #UN70 and #UNBlue.

24 October : Inauguration of an art installation on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations
Well-known artist Cristobal Gabarron will unveil his monument entitled "bright universe". (Enlightened universe) "in the famous Central Park in New York as part of events to mark the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. The monument is an interactive sculpture consisting of a sphere and surrounded by a spiral of 70 characters who stand by the hand – one for each of 70 years since the creation of the United Nations. The Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will deliver the 24 October an opening speech in the presence of officials of the United Nations, staff, diplomats, officials of the city and the citizens of the world ; visitors are invited to attend.
The event will take place at Rumsey Playfield, in Central Park (entrance on East 72nd and 5th Avenue).
After his exhibition in New York, the work of art will be presented in major cities around the world.
