First outing outside for the new Minister of Tourism who attended the First World Conference on Tourism for Development in 18 to the 21 May in Beijing which coincided with China Tourism Day.
The First World Conference on Tourism for Development saw the participation of Ministers of Tourism and senior officials from around a hundred countries. Madagascar was represented by Roland Ratsiraka at this international meeting where the contribution of tourism to the United Nations sustainable development objectives was discussed under the theme “Tourism for peace and development”.

During this event organized jointly by the People's Republic of China and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Malagasy minister was received by his Chinese counterpart Li Jinzao and the mayor of Beijing. The opportunity for Roland Ratsiraka to convey the image of the Big Island and promote Malagasy tourism while reiterating Madagascar's desire to develop the sector despite the problems. In the wake, he wanted to build confidence and reassure partners – already present as well as potential – in relation to areas indirectly affecting tourism such as justice, security and air transport. Concerning this last area, he would not have excluded, we think we know, the possible resumption of the Tana – Guangzhou connection by Air Madagascar and/or Air Austral.

In any case, the revival and promotion of tourism must be done with existing airlines to exceed the flow of 250.000 tourists registered in 2015. With this in mind, the Ministry of Tourism intends to promote this policy of revival of the sector through conferences and exhibitions. Among others and not least, the ITM which will be held from 2 to the 4 next June in Tana and on the occasion of which Roland Ratsiraka invited Li Jinzao so that he could undoubtedly speak with knowledge of the facts, of the destination Madagascar among his compatriots who travel a lot across the planet. Contributing greatly to the development of global tourism for which the Big Island has a market share to conquer.
