Sustainable development : green coal against deforestation by Hotel★★★ Gourmet restaurant Coco Lodge Majunga

In the region of DIANA, about 9 000 HA of land are now planted for the production of coal.

A reforestation and green coal production project is being implemented by the event program for the environment (PGME-GIZ) in Ankitsaka in the region of DIANA since 2007. This program focuses on the achievement of both villagers and individual reforestation in the desein to reduce illegal and irrational wood farms, including from natural forests while combating poverty through this stream wood energy ranging from holding up the marketing of coal called 'green '.. The German bank KfW is supporting this project by financing the reforestation of 1 000 HA each year. The Department of energy has already begun negotiations with German officials to maintain their support for this project. This is what it has learned during the visit of the Minister of energy and his staff in the region of DIANA recently.

30 000 tonnes per year. Note PGME GIZ frames village communities on the management of natural resources and the planning of the operation for the production of green charcoal. Villagers and voluntarily engage to replant on a plot previously identified by the municipality. They then become owner of these reforested plots. Last year, 2 600 villagers have also reforested eucalyptus on a total area of plants 6 700 HA. The objective is to achieve a reforestation on 30 000 HA if it no longer wants to touch the natural forests of the region to meet the demand of coal valued at 30 000 tonnes per year for DIANA whose 12 000 tonnes for the town of Antsiranana, has been learned. In fact, 85 % household use of charcoal. Their needs tend to increase, Since the costs of electricity and gas are no longer out of reach of the population. On the other hand, the PGME GIZ form formal operators grouped in a cooperative in transformation or charring of wood into charcoal green giving them an enhanced system. It's an improved home funded by 5 000 EUR providing a yield of 30 % en 24 hours against 10 to 12 % After a week.

Energy transition.
You should know that a hectare of reforestation permits 4 tons of green charcoal. The producers market themselves their green charcoal to prevent intermediaries. Their cooperatives have a green coal marketing Rural Centre (DREV) which dispenses with their own circuit. The programme aims also to the formation of other producers who undertake production and popularization of cookstoves for households. "This program responds to the new vision for the Department of energy the energy transition-oriented., either the phasing out of fossil fuels to renewable energies. This energy transition combines power generation and preservation of the environment. The duplication of such a program should be done in other regions, especially in Antananarivo, large consumer of coal. The identification of a reserve for reforestation dedicated to green charcoal production is needed so, to do this., concludes the Minister of energy, Fienena Richard.
