The visit of King Mohammed VI dedicated renewal in the relations between Morocco and Madagascar. The two countries have been pushed together by history in the years 1950. In the momentum of the struggle for independence, Late King Mohammed V, grandfather of the Sovereign, had been sent into exile with his family in August 1953 by the French colonial power ; first in Corsica then in Madagascar, from January 1954, in the town of Antsirabe where he had resided at the Hôtel des Thermes for a little over two years. It's only November 1955 that the late King Mohammed V was able to return, triumphantly, in Morocco which would then regain its independence in March 1956.
Yesterday Monday 21 November, the King of Morocco was in Antsirabe, the city that welcomed his late grandfather, Mohammed V, and his children, including his father, the future King Hassan II. A return to the path of the man who laid the foundations of a modern Morocco, a kingdom that has always been grateful for the hospitality offered by the Malagasy, and by the population of Antsirabe in particular. Thus, in the capital of the Vakinankaratra Region, King Mohammed VI will lay the first stone of a large hospital, dedicated to maternal and child health, as well as that of a professional training center which will be able to accommodate nearly a thousand learners. Two strong symbols of the attachment of the Moroccan Royal Family to the city of Antsirabe.
Bilateral cooperation and the Francophonie Summit
With the state visit carried out by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco and Madagascar open a new page in the history of their relations. Cooperation between the two countries is set to strengthen, to reach several sectors where Morocco can provide its support and experience, in this phase where Madagascar has resolutely placed itself in the orbit of development.
In addition to the state visit, His Majesty the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, is also in Antananarivo to participate in the XVIth summit of the Francophonie. He is thus the first senior leader of the Great Family of the Francophonie, to have reached Malagasy land, This, at the head of a strong delegation of 450 people.

- Eldest son of the late His Majesty King Hassan II, His Majesty Mohammed VI is the twenty-third Sovereign of the Alaouite Dynasty, whose reign began in the mid-17th centuryth century ;

- Accustomed to heavy loads from a young age, His Majesty King Mohammed VI is married to Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Salma. They have two children.
