Global Code of Tourism Ethics for Responsible and Sustainable Tourism by Hotel★★★ Gourmet Restaurant Coco Lodge Majunga
Fundamental frame of reference for responsible and sustainable tourism, the Global Code of ethics for tourism is a comprehensive set of principles meant to guide the main actors of the tourism development.
The code, which is addressed both to public authorities and professionals in the sector trips as communities and tourists, aims to contribute to maximizing the benefits of tourism while limiting to a minimum any potentially negative impact on the environment, cultural heritage and companies all over the world.
The code was adopted in 1999 by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization.
Recognising two years later, United Nations expressly encouraged the WTO to promote the effective application of its provisions in practice. The code is not legally binding, but it nevertheless provides for a voluntary application mechanism through the role entrusted to the World Committee on Tourism Ethics, which may be submitted by stakeholders of issues related to the application and interpretation of the document.
Tourism, user of the cultural heritage of mankind and contributor to its enhancement.
Tourism resources belong to the common heritage of humanity ; the communities in whose territories they are located have, towards them, special rights and obligations.
Tourist policies and activities are carried out with respect for artistic heritage, archaeological and cultural, that they must protect and transmit to future generations ; particular care is given to the preservation and enhancement of monuments, sanctuaries and museums, as well as historical or archaeological sites, which must be widely open to tourist traffic ; public access to private cultural goods and monuments must be encouraged, while respecting the rights of their owners, as well as religious buildings, without prejudice to the needs of worship.
The resources drawn from the attendance of cultural sites and monuments are intended, at least partially, to be used for maintenance, backup, the valorization and enrichment of this heritage.
Tourist activity must be designed in such a way as to allow the survival and flourishing of traditional cultural and artisanal productions as well as folklore., and not to cause their standardization and impoverishment.
