History
The German baron Karl Von Drais invented in 1816 the draisine, considered to be the ancestor of the bicycle. It is a vehicle two skates that the cyclist moves forward by pushing on the ground with his feet. He presents his invention in Paris, the 5 April 1815. En 1861, the brothers Pierre and Ernest Michaux coachbuilders began the manufacture of the first bicycles to pedal. Pierre Michaux calls this "pedivelle" pedal and generalizes the manufacture by creating his company in 1865, the 'Michaux House"which becomes"The Parisian company"in 1869.
It is question, from 1867, popular success. Similar to the velocipede gear Michaux have great success in the United States from 1866, When Pierre Lallement, former associate of Pierre Michaux, receives U.S. patent for a machine he calls "bicycle".. Towards the end of the years 1870 appears the grand-bi. It has a wheel before a very large diameter and a smaller rear wheel. The interest of the large front wheel, is to increase the distance travelled for a round of pedal. The front being higher and larger than the wheel rear wheel, the conduct of the apparatus is dangerous and difficult.
