Ylias Akbaraly : a model for young Malagasy people

Last Sunday, 11 February 2024 one of the largest family business conferences in the world took place (Global Family Business Conference) at Harvard Business School. L’entrepreneur Malagasy, Mr Ylias Akbaraly was the special guest.

Purpose of the event

This event aims to provide a platform to discuss the challenges, opportunities as well as the emotional and practical tools needed to join, operate and succeed within a family business.

As a special guest at the panel on the theme “Owner’s Path Dialogue” hosted by Christina Wing, Ylias Akbaraly shared his experience alongside Nami Yamamoto, CEO de Yamamotoyama, a 300-year-old Japanese tea company.

Prestigious speakers from several generations were present for this occasion, whose :

• Chris Davis, Marketing Director of New Balance ;
• Riccardo Illy, former CEO of the Illy group ;
• Kumar Mangalam Birla, CEO of Birla Group ;
• Dan Gilbane, CEO of the group of the same name.

The conference was an opportunity to share experiences, of perspectives and advice in front of a strong audience of more than 600 students. After Tana and Diego, this is the third remarkable intervention by Ylias Akbaraly. He clearly demonstrated his role as a mentor and role model in front of a young audience.

Ylias Akbaraly is the president of REDLAND, a holding company bringing together Thomson Broadcast, Gates Air and the Sipromad Group.

His career is distinguished by the successful transformation of the family company. After recent acquisitions such as Thomson Broadcast in France in August 2018, Gates Air in the United States in August 2022, and a new paper recycling plant in Madagascar in 2021, REDLAND has become an international group, present in several sectors around the world.

Nowadays, entrepreneurship is an asset for job creation for younger generations.. Young Malagasy people are inspired by Ylias Akbaraly as a model in entrepreneurship.
