Competition for those who wish to progress in the field of comics in Madagascar

A contest, whose theme is “Travel and biodiversity in comics”, will take place in Madagascar. This is a great opportunity to create a first editorial and professional experience.

Combined Effort by Cyclone Bd and Bubbles in the Ocean Edition, with the French Institute of Madagascar and the International Organization of the Francophonie, The contest is open to all.

Turning mainly around travel and biodiversity, the comic book proposed for this contest must be a short story of three boards A4 front, unrestricted boxes, with or without text, portrait or landscape format.

In order to give free rein to creation, the contest is open to all forms of comics, ranging from manga to comics to European comics.

Similarly, the form is also free. Whether it's storytelling, Fictitious, Documentary, Poetic, Dramatic, Fantastic, Humorous, Biographical..., without omitting the techniques used such as pencil, Felt, Pastel, Ball, painting.

If the deadline is set for 31 August, The residency will take place 28 September at the 9 October 2020. Six lauréats sélectionnés participeront à une résidence de création. They will be supervised by comic book professionals.

The residency will lead to the publication of a collective comic book album. Obviously, the winning comics will be on display as part of the closing day of the residence at IFM Analakely.

Travel and biodiversity in comics, a well-suited theme in the country

“Voyage et biodiversité”, that's the theme of this comic book contest. This is a theme that suits the large island of the Indian Ocean very well. So there will be no shortage of inspiration for our artists.

Indeed, Madagascar is synonymous with a land of biodiversity. There are countless species of plants and fascinating creatures.

With endemic flora and fauna and landscapes as varied as they are exceptional, the island is now one of the biggest ecotourism destinations of choice.

It should be noted that 5% biodiversity is located in Madagascar.

There are fourteen thousand species of plants, whose 80% are endemic. Six of the eight baobab species found worldwide, are on in Madagascar. And several species of orchids and many plants with medicinal properties are only visible here.

The country is also exceptional thanks to its original fauna with a degree of endemism of more than 80%. The evidence, 100% lemur species are endemic.

Among the most famous, there's the indri-indri, aye-aye, the cata lemur. And we even recently discovered a new species : the Microcebus Jonahi.

On the other hand, reptiles, birds and amphibians complete the wildlife wealth of the big island. Indeed, many parts of Madagascar, including the Boeny region, are home to a multitude of endemic bird species. This makes it one of the destinations that birdwatchers around the world prefer. Majunga is even said to be the kingdom of Madagascar's birds.

And of course, such a country is well worth finding, to preserve its natural resources and enhance it.
