Repatriation flight from Mauritius

The Embassy of Madagascar in Mauritius plans to organize a repatriation flight from Mauritius to Madagascar, for Malagasy nationals stranded there.

This repatriation flight is planned for 25 December 2021. A little Christmas present : Malagasy residents or working in Mauritius should have the opportunity to return to the country this 25 December.

On the other hand, it must be emphasized that the completion of this repatriation flight is still awaiting validation from the competent authorities.

This is the second repatriation flight that the embassy plans to organize since the closure of the Malagasy borders to passengers from Mauritius..

Mauritius borders – Madagascar

Reminder, Madagascar had closed its borders to Mauritius since the end of November 2021. The last commercial flight between Mauritius and Madagascar took place on 27 last November.

The Malagasy authorities took this decision to suspend flights with Mauritius in the Council of Ministers on 17 November, by precautionary measures.

Indeed, the Omicron variant is currently circulating in Mauritius. In a press release, broadcast Wednesday 15 December, the Mauritian Ministry of Health announced the detection of twelve new cases of the Omicron variant.

The Mauritian territory now has fourteen cases of the Omicron variant. Among the fifteen samples that were the subject of sequencing, two cases of the Delta variant and the local variant B.1.1.318 were also taken, reports Defimedia.info.
