One and a half million euros against the "kere"
One and a half million euros against the "kere" in the Great South of Madagascar to help populations affected by drought and malnutrition.
To fight against "kere" in the Great South of Madagascar, France contributes up to 1,5 million d’euros, in response to the United Nations flash appeal launched on 18 January 2021.
04 Projects
The million and a half euros handed over by France constitutes the first installment food aid programmed for 2021 by France in favor of Madagascar. The funding will be intended for four projects supported by the World Food Program (Pam) and by three French NGOs : GRET, “Action Against Hunger” and “Humanity and Inclusion”.
These funds will make it possible to help more than 50 000 people. The projects selected, in line with French food aid commitments and priorities, are deployed in areas particularly at risk in terms of nutritional security and are intended to improve the nutritional situation of the populations concerned.
Four organizations will decide 1,5 million euros in aid from France. These are organizations that are already working through projects in the south of the country..
750 000 € for WFP
750 000 euros are intended for the World Food Program (Pam). It seeks to prevent malnutrition by increasing pregnant and breastfeeding women's access to nutritious food. The project also seeks to treat nearly twenty thousand children from 6 to 59 months suffering from acute malnutrition in two communes of the district of Ampanihy in the Atsimo Andrefana region.
300 000 € for the NGO GRET
The NGO GRET will benefit from 300 000 euros and will support projects in two municipalities in the district of Ambovombe, Androy region.
“The objective of the NGO GRET is to consolidate the care of children with moderate acute malnutrition through relief rations, to continue social safety net activities in favor of mothers of children from 6 to 24 months and pregnant and breastfeeding women” underlines a missive from the French Embassy. The project plans to support these activities by educating the population on good feeding practices., care and hygiene.
250 000 € for ACF
The third NGO involved is Action Against Hunger (ACF). It sets up projects in favor of the autonomy and resilience of households. They have already planned the operationalization of mobile clinics and household capacity building. Eleven thousand people, including ten thousand children under the age of 5, will benefit.
200 000 € for HI
The NGO Humanity and Inclusion receives 200 000 EUR. The objective is to be able to provide assistance to people with disabilities and their households in the Atsimo Andrefana region. The aim is to reduce the nutritional risks associated with drought in the great south. And those while supporting medical services to reduce disability in children of 0 to 5 years malnourished.
One and a half million euros against the "kere". This aid is France's contribution to the Flash Appeal launched in January by the United Nations.
