Cable car : Start of tests with passengers on board

The Secretary of State for New Cities and Housing, Gérard Andriamanohisoa, communicated two weeks ago that the technical test carrying human passengers will be carried out from this 19 June 2024. As soon as it is validated following European standards, the cable car can therefore be started before the national holiday.

Safety arrangements for the cable car

Two phases of technical tests have already been carried out on the orange line connecting the Anosy axis- Soprano. And starting tomorrow 19 June 2024, SENVH will move to trial carrying human passengers.

Actually, a cable car cabin has the capacity to transport ten people. According to a technician, the journey between Anosy and Soarano can last in about three minutes. For those who can't wait to take this new transport, attendants will be installed in stations to serve as guides and provide necessary information to passengers. Their mission will be to indicate all the steps to follow, such as purchasing tickets, stops and lots of other information.

Advantages provided by the cable car

Gérard Andriamanohisoa indicated that the management of cable transport provides many jobs for young people, in particular technical exploitation and commercial exploitation. According to him, this initiative will make it possible to recruit young people leaving universities. For those who wish to take this new public transport, no official price has yet been communicated. But according to forecasts, the cost of tickets varies from 3 000 to 5 000 Ariary.

The Secretary of State in charge of New Cities and Housing plans to distribute free and subsidized tickets in order to get people used to taking this means of transport. Le SENVH has announced that a price reduction will be granted to passengers who make monthly subscriptions. In addition to this, preferential rates will be given to elderly people and students.

Cable transport facilitates the movement of people in a hurry such as those who have to go to the hospital. And once this means of transport is operational, it will be accessible to all users for a duration of fifteen hours, notably from six a.m. to eight thirty minutes.
