Statistics of arrivals in Madagascar

Since the reopening of the borders, the Ministry of Tourism counts the arrivals of international travelers in the country, thanks to landing slips. This allows us to obtain statistics of arrivals in Madagascar with exact figures.

5 837 arrivals in November 2021

Disembarkation forms completed by travelers on international flights, upon arrival at Ivato International Airport and collected by the Ministry of Tourism, from November 01 to 30 November 2021, made it possible to highlight that 60% (3499) of passengers disembarking at Antananarivo International Airport are non-residents. And the 40% (2 338) remaining are residents.

Reasons for travel

Among non-residents, the vast majority of whom (66%) are of French nationality, 7% are Malagasy and 2% of American nationality, we can present their main reasons for travel as follows.

33% of them came to Madagascar for tourism. 31% came to visit their families. And 11% are there for business trips.

Reminder, the 23 last october, first day of the reopening of the borders of Madagascar after 02 years of closure, one hundred and forty-six passengers from Mauritius disembarked at Ivato International Airport.

65% of these one hundred and forty-six passengers were residents of Madagascar. 33% non-residents had come for business reasons and 27% for tourism reasons, according to the boarding form completed by these passengers, according to the Ministry of Tourism. “The tourism sheet is a tool set up, in order to obtain reliable and real-time statistics, on the reason for the trip, the nationality, the type of accommodation or the region of destination of each passenger”, indicates the Minister of Tourism.

It should be remembered that since 16 December 2021, all regional and international flights, arrivals and departures in Antananarivo, take place at the new Ivato airport.
